Case study · Restaurants

Every branch, every kitchen, every plate accounted for

Yum Chinese was Wizmen’s first restaurant client in 2011. More than a decade on, its outlets still take orders, run kitchens and close the day on the same system.

Overview

In 2011 Wizmen made its boldest move: from mills and distributors into the fast-paced world of food and beverage. Yum Chinese was the brand that came with us. A restaurant group lives on two clocks at once — the minutes between an order and a plate, and the month between buying stock and seeing the margin. Wizmen was asked to run both, across every outlet, from one system.

01The challenge

Speed at the counter, control in the back office

A busy outlet cannot wait on its software, and a group cannot run on guesswork. The system had to be fast enough for service and exact enough for accounts.

  • 01

Orders had to move from counter and table to the kitchen instantly, with every item and modifier captured correctly.

  • 02

Each dish needed a recipe, so ingredients consumed could be measured against what was sold.

  • 03

Stock had to be held and moved between a central store and multiple outlets without losing track of it.

  • 04

Each day’s sales, cards and cash had to reconcile branch by branch and post straight into the accounts.

02Our approach

From the counter backward

We started where the guest meets the business and worked back to the ledger, so every sale carries its cost with it.

  1. 01

    Point of sale and kitchen

POS terminals and kitchen display were set up per outlet, so orders reach the kitchen as they are punched and nothing is re-written by hand.

  2. 02

    Recipes behind the menu

Every menu item was linked to a recipe, letting the system consume ingredients automatically with each sale.

  3. 03

    Stores and branch transfers

Central purchasing, branch-to-branch transfers and stock taking were brought onto the same inventory, so each outlet’s usage is visible.

  4. 04

Close the day into the ledger

Day-end closing, bank and card reconciliation and accounting post every outlet’s results into one general ledger.

03The solution

One system from table to balance sheet

The deployment is built on Wizmen’s Restaurant Management System — POS, kitchen, inventory and accounts in a single product.

04The outcome

The template for our restaurant practice

Yum Chinese did not just adopt our restaurant system; it helped shape it. The brands that followed — Spice Bazaar, Chashni, Eggspectations and more — run on what was proven here.

  • Orders straight to the kitchen

Each order reaches the kitchen display the moment it is placed, with every item and instruction intact.

  • Food cost from the recipe

Ingredients are consumed per dish sold, so the gap between theoretical and actual usage is visible by outlet.

  • Branches on one inventory

Central purchases and transfers between outlets are tracked in one place, so stock is never lost between locations.

  • Every day closed and reconciled

Cash, card and sales are reconciled at day end and posted to the ledger, outlet by outlet.

15

Years and counting

Restaurants taught us that software has to keep pace with service. Everything we built since 2011 started with that lesson.
